This course is an introduction to forensic science, written especially for the layman with little or no knowledge of the modern tools and methods now being used in crime scene investigations. Christopher Kurtz, whose previous courses on criminal profiling have attracted a global following at VU, opens Part 1 of this new series with a short history of forensics. The class retraces the development of the FBI Crime Lab and explores the tests and techniques used in each unit. Recent cases involving DNA and other cutting edge technologies are also discussed. This course will be helpful to those considering a career in law enforcement or who have an interest in crime scene investigation.
