Logging in to Your Desk
Your VU Desk provides a handy set of personalized links to
classrooms and other points of interest on the Virtual University campus.
Your desk setup information is stored in a browser "cookie" a tiny
data file generated by our server and stored on your hard drive. It
eliminates the need for you to log in again and again as you navigate around
our virtual campus.
Most browsers accept cookies by default so if you haven't changed this
setting, no action on your part is required. If you keep returning
to the login page and being asked to enter your Student ID, it means your
browser is rejecting cookies. To fix this problem, just follow the instructions
for your browser and version provided below:
Firefox 1.x+
We've created a help file for Firefox users with step-by-step

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x
On the browser toolbar, click Tools,
Internet Options, and then Privacy.
Slide the bar to Medium.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 - 5.5
On the browser toolbar, click Tools /
Internet Options / Advanced.
Click the "Internet" icon, then the
Custom Level button. Scroll down to
Cookies. When you see Allow Cookies that are
stored on your computer, click Enable.
Just below that, for All per-session cookies (not stored),
click Enable. Click OK
to close the dialog boxes.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0
On the browser toolbar, click View /
Internet Options /
Advanced. Click the radio button for Always accept cookies
under Cookies in the Security
heading. Click OK.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0
On the browser toolbar, click View /
Options, then the Advanced
tab. Uncheck Warn before
Accepting Cookies in the Warnings area. Click the
Security tab, then
Safety Level. Choose Medium and
click OK. Click OK to
close the Options dialog box.
Netscape Navigator versions 4.0 - 4.72
On the browser toolbar, click Edit | Preferences | Advanced. In the Cookies section, click
Accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server.
Uncheck Warn me before accepting a cookie or you'll get frequent, annoying
messages. Click OK.
Netscape Navigator 3.0
On the browser menu, click Options /
Network Preferences. Click
Protocols and uncheck Accepting
a Cookie in the Show an Alert Before area.
Click OK.
