We all have stories to tell – family hardships, our first kiss, life-changing moments, long-guarded confessions. In this course, you will learn how to write a personal journal about the people, places, and events that have been important milestones in your life. Writing a personal journal is a powerful catalyst that can help you work through problems, heal relationships, overcome childhood wounds, and relate more meaningfully to your past and present. It is also one of the best and least expensive ways to get to know yourself better!
Journaling can help you remain grounded in the here and now, make you more aware of your own feelings, and even put you in touch with your creative side and help you develop your natural talent as a writer! Reading from your journal can also have amazing healing effects. In a recent film, The Notebook, a woman slowly losing her memory writes a personal journal for her husband and signs it, "The story of our lives, by Allie Calhoun. Read this to me and I'll come back to you."
Allie is placed in an Alzheimer's facility. She does not recognize her children, grandchildren, or even her husband Noah. Each day, Noah reads passages to Allie from her own journal — the story of how the two young lovers met one evening at a carnival sixty years ago. Allie enjoys the compelling love story, when suddenly a miracle occurs. Her memory returns and she realizes the kind stranger reading to her is her husband, Noah, and the love story he is reading from "the notebook" was her own.
In this class, you will learn how to generate powerful personal stories for your own "notebook." The course will suggest useful techniques to unlock long-forgotten memories and create a striking life narrative that is uniquely yours and from the heart. Whether you are taking this course as a preparation to writing your memoirs or you'd like to preserve your legacy for your family and loved ones, this course will jump-start your journal writing project!
